Crocheted Gypsy Earrings

DSCF0853a

Thank you all for your very sweet comments about my lovely daughter.  You’re all so kind, goodness, I love crafty people.  We both got kind of big-headed over all the praise, and now I don’t know how we’ll keep her down on the farm.  (If she suddenly decides to change her major to Supermodeling or Disney Princess Hair Sciences, I’ll know who to blame.)  Anyway, she is always willing to put on whatever weird thing I have hooked together and go stand over by that tree so I can take her picture.  What a good girl.  She even folded my laundry the other day.  No, you can’t have her.

I keep crocheting doodads in a desperate attempt to not have to keep knitting this huge blanket.  (It’s got me down, this blanket.  I always like to brag that I never got tired of making this or that, but I can’t say that this time.  I am dead tired of making this blanket. I am also running out of yarn.  Can you believe that?  I am!)  These fantastic gypsy earrings only took me away from the arduous knitting for about an hour, but it was an hour well spent.  The pattern can be found in the July/August issue of Crochet Today magazine, and I used DMC size 5 Pearl cotton in burnt orange, hooked over a pair of hoop earrings I already had around the place.

I know I’ll love the blanket.  I will.  I know it.  Must persevere.

  8. Now then Kristen......you have to be positive about your blanket!!! Try a mantra chant " I will finish it sooon...I will finish it soon" mantra chats can be quite powerful...can't they? .....(in Tibet!!!)

  9. Lovely earrings! And your beautiful blanket looks already big, doesn't it? Just wait for the first cold days to come, than your fingers will fly for finishing this cuddly thing ;-)

  10. We have all been where you are, wanting to shoot your head off rather than sit down and finish a blanket. I felt that way with the big red monster I made my oldest, and the chocolate crochet blanket I made my youngest. I have not made a blanket since then, I think we know why.
Lovely earrings on a lovely girl.
    Hugs,

  13. I always start out full steam ahead on a blanket, and the next thing you know it's a cushion. By the looks of your picture you are well past the cushion stage, but maybe you don't have to make it as big as you originally thought? Then you could be almost done. Anyway, you really do have an amazing stick-to-it-ness!
Way to distract yourself with cute gypsy earrings. I likee.

  14. Very awesome daughter, gorgeous earrings, had a good chuckle at your post! I think we have all been there on a project or two with the "what did I take this on for?!" Maybe try setting yourself smaller chunks of it to finish at a time so you feel like you're winning? After all "the best way to eat an elephant is to make it into sandwiches!" Have a lovely weekend, Helen x

  22. I reached here on my usual crochet-blog hopping. You have some lovely crochet projects but what really hooked me was your style of writing. Your observation about your hat turning into "a vessel for drawing water from the well" had me laughing out loud.I have similar thoughts when my projects turn "funny". I will definitely be sticking around.
    Love.
