Winter is here

DSCF1777a

To be filed under Be Careful What You Wish For—it snowed.  A lot.  And as the wind blows, I keep having to move the same four-foot drift of snow away from the chicken house door as my glasses fog up and my back reminds me of my advancing years.  But it sure does look pretty!  Dean and I sat beside the window in a cafe yesterday, drinking hot coffee and sharing a crossword puzzle as the huge flakes drifted down against the gray landscape.  The whole world outside that window was dripping with snow, the trees laden and drooping and frosted.  Spectacular.  And then we came home and shoveled some more.   I asked for some winter, and hoo boy!  It came.  Best enjoyed from the warm side of a steamed-up cafe window.

This is the Infinity Cowl from this book, made yesterday in support of this.  If you’re looking for a way to let them know you care, check it out.

  1. More snow envy from me!! I know its a pain for others but it is so very beautiful. I love waking up and seeing the change in the light that snow fall brings. The whole world seems softer and quieter. I just love it. Have fun. xxx

  2. Holy cow that is some snow! I see your tree is keeping warm with your yarn bombing. I like how everything is more hushed when it's covered in snow. It looks very cozy from here, of course I'm not digging out and checking on chickens. Enjoy the view!

  7. That sure looks pretty! I enjoy snow the most curled in front of a fireplace with hot cocoa or coffee and a good book - or some crochet!

  8. I'm so happy you have snow. We have too. For a Finn it's unnatural not to have snow for Christmas. We got some finally and I'm sooooo happy about it. The girls definitely are enjoying the snow. I just hope it would stay. I was out this morning doing the snow before 8am. :) And enjoying every second of it.

  9. Your description of the snow is lovely. Out here on the west coast, we get little snow and when we do its not nearly as delightful as yours sounds!

  10. I love the change of seasons. How lucky we are that nature gives us such an amazing show. The winter whites, the spring greens, the burst of the summer sun, and the beautiful colors of fall. Wouldn't live anywhere else. Have a Happy New Year, Kristen.

  15. Thank you, Kristen! The cowl is lovely and will be a beautiful addition to our growing pile for the staff at Sandy Hook! So grateful! Hopefully it will encourage even more participation. We linked up with another group from CT doing scarves for the children and I hope to have that info posted this week. You rock!!

  16. Happy new year, Kristen. Looks like you need to make a full body wrap to stay warm in that weather. Yikes! We are having temps in the 60s during the day, 50s at night which is perfect weather -- wish it would stay like this all year long. Wishing you a wonderful year filled with possibility, peace and promise. Tammy
