Koolhaas Hat

DSCF2036a

Next time you get bronchitis, you should go and spend a week with your mom, who will pour you ginger ale (and calvados) and get you some cough syrup and offer you a dry tissue and never, ever look at you like you’re about to give her typhoid, not even when it sounds like your entire lungs are dissolving.  Moms are the very best, and I love mine a lot.

I was away over Valentine’s Day, which meant that when I got off the plane yesterday, there was my man, standing there holding flowers and a heart-shaped box of candy, and I can’t even tell you how happy I was to see him.  Everyone else getting off the plane was so jealous.  They all wanted to go home with him, too, I could tell.  The weather was gusty, and the airplane was jumping all over the place, so I was a little sideways, but I managed to knit him this hat anyway, and all those cables kept me entertained for hours.

That’s the Koolhaas Hat by Jared Flood, knit in Paton’s Classic, in a color called Tree Bark.  Look at it snow, wow.  I made this one just in time, I guess.

  2. What a great hat! It's really hard, I think, to find nice stuff to make for the men in our lives!
Sorry to hear that you've been unwell. I hope you're better now!

  3. Awwww, what a lovely post! The two of you are lucky to have one another. And your words about Moms...sooooo true. Mine used to tell me that NO ONE will ever love you like your Mother...and as the years have elapsed and wisdom has crept in, I know she was ever so right. Unconditional...it's hard to find! Love that hat...i need to expand my horizons beyond the hook! Hugs, Annette

That hat looks to be the perfect fit for your thoughtful hubby. I really like that cable pattern. Very cool.
Would you look at all that snow! I guess winter will be hanging around for a while.

  10. Oh my gosh, you too? I have had bronchitis and have been sick as a dog! But I didn't get to have my Mommy take care of me! I know what you mean, Moms are just the best, no matter how old we get. Love the hat. And love that he met you with flowers and candy!

  11. "No one loves you any better than your M. O. double M. Y." It's a song, and I sing it to my kids ALL the time when I do something special for them (even if it's just make them a tea or hot cocoa). It makes them smile when they're sad, and groan when they're not. Glad your mom made it all better for you :) I had hoped to knit on the plane during my last trip, but was told not to carry needles on board. It was a long tedious flight too, and I could've used the distraction. Gorgeous hat ... very manly! He can wear that with pride. Wendy

  12. I took my grown up daughter to meet her boyfriend from the bus station earlier. She was excited. I was talking about whenever I hadn't seen her dad for a while - however short - I couldn't help the smile spreading across my face and the jitter of excitement in my stomach. Nearly thirty years on I still feel the same and realise how very lucky I am to have that. Your man sounds like a real sweetie x Jane

  20. Im so happy to have found your blog! I too was taught crochet by my mom when I was 10 and stuck in the house during the summer. I rekindled my love for it in my 20s, but taught myself knitting (mostly dolls, blankets, scarves), and then oh boy, quilting, lampworking, cross stitch, and rug hooking and punch needle soon followed, and I finally knitted my first pair of socks. I so would love to knit a sweater some day. I have a need to make what I like, and have more blankets than I need, but that's what makes life cozy, right?! Your blog is inspiring, and I am glad to know I not alone in having a mountain of things that will someday be turned into beautiful projects in the future!
